Alvin A. Magelitz, 85, of Waverly, passed away Monday, January 30, 2012, at Sunrise Skilled Nursing in Virden.
He was born Feb. 20, 1926, near Bluffs, the son of Fred and Emma Enke Magelitz. He married Wilma J. Meier on Sept. 25, 1949, at the home of her parents near Bluffs.
He is survived by his wife; three children, Donald (Karen) Magelitz of Waverly, Bonita (Jeff) Schone of Bluffs and Larry (JoAnna) Magelitz of Virden; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Flora Albers of Bluffs; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Harry (surviving wife Maxine of Jacksonville).
Mr. Magelitz was confirmed in 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Neelyville, and has been a faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville since 1961. He farmed in the area his entire life, first in Scott County and then Morgan County, before buying land in the Waverly area which he has farmed for over 40 years. He enjoyed music and he enjoyed farming.
