Mr. Alvester Hughes Sr., 76, transitioned to his heavenly home on April 7, 2014 at High Point Regional following an extended illness.
Alvester was born on October 27, 1937 in Cheraw, South Carolina to David Hughes and Fannie Harris Hughes. He had been a High Point resident for over fifty years and a faithful member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church. He was formerly employed with Hayworth Roll and Panel as a mechanic and family and friends knew him as a great auto mechanic as well.
Mr. Hughes was a generous, joyful giver. He loved drag races, joking, and being around people. You would often find him with a smile on his face. He was one of those people who,” said what he meant, and meant what he said”.
In addition to his parents, three sisters, Thelma Freeman, Earline Hailey, and Fannie Burns; brothers, Samuel Hughes, David Hughes, James Hughes, and Nehemiah Hughes preceded him in death.
Surviving relatives include a son, Alvester Hughes, Jr. of High Point; four grandchildren, Andrea Johnson, Edmond Lindsay, Alvester Lindsay, and Aaron Hughes; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Legarther Hughes (Gloria), and Lester Hughes (Marie) all of Cheraw, South Carolina.
