Althea Ellen Johns was born on August 21, 1938 in Denton, MD to the late Robert Johns and Mary Waples. She peacefully transitioned into eternity to be with the Lord, on October 14, 2017 in her home, in Dover Delaware.
Althea was educated in the Caroline County Public School System where she attended Lockerman High, in Denton, MD. Later she moved to Philadelphia, where she attended diploma school to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She resided in Philly most of her adult life, where she was employed at Norristown State Psychiatric Hospital for 33 years. After she retired, she moved to Dover to enjoy her retirement.
Althea was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and daily attended the Modern Maturity Center until her health started to decline. The Center delivered her Meals on Wheels, which she looked forward to, especially her favorite delivery man Bob. She loved to listen to Gospel music especially her favorite singer, Donnie McClurkin. When she wasn’t listening to Gospel music she enjoyed listening to the news and playing along with Family Feud hosted by Steve Harvey. She loved to talk for hours, sharing stories of her childhood, times spent with family or the places she traveled. She traveled many places with her co-worker/friend, Alberta to places such as China, Hawaii, Bahamas, Jamaica and many cruise destinations. She would laugh when telling the story about her 2-week cruise to Alaska when the ship caught fire and it was on the news. Of course while everyone else was safely on deck, she saw this as a great opportunity to do laundry, since the laundry room was always crowded.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Doretta, son James and granddaughter Kassia. She leaves to cherish her memory: Son-in-law, Rev Eddie Gross; Grandchildren, Millie, Danielle, Boe (Rikki); Great-Grandchildren, Dominique, Brittany, Kyliah, QG; Great-Grandchild, Damion; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
