Alta M. “Shortie” McCreary, 68, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at Elkhart General Hospital.
She was born April 3, 1946 in Plainwell, MI to Duane L. and Lois M. (Powell) Martin.
On November 19, 1983 she married Robert J. “Bob” McCreary in Elkhart. He survives at home.
Other survivors include 1 daughter, Debra (Daniel) Carr of Elkhart; 2 sons, Daniel E. (Rebecca) Gill of Elkhart and Robert A. (Leslie) McCreary of Mishawaka; 1 sister, Shirley (Howard) Young of Elkhart; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a nephew, Melvin Young.
Shortie was employed at Kemberly Inc. in Elkhart for more than 20 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Riverview General Baptist Church for several years. Shortie loved taking care of her dogs, fishing, playing Bingo and card games.
