Alpheus J. Norman, III, 88, of Normandy Beach, Toms River Twp., NJ, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick, NJ. Born in Irvington, NJ, he raised his family in Livingston, NJ and spent time in the summer in Normandy from 1967 until moving there permanently 23 years ago. He also had wintered in Anna Maria Island, FL, for many years. Alphy was a 1946 graduate of East Orange High School, where he served as Class President and was Co-Captain of the high school’s football team. Following high school, he graduated from the Montclair Academy and attended the University of Pennsylvania.

Alphy was a 2nd generation owner and operator of Norman Florist, Inc. in East Orange, NJ and Livingston, NJ for many years. He was a parishioner of the Parish of St. Pio Church, Lavallette, NJ, and was a former member of Our Lady of Peace RC Church, Normandy Beach, and St. Philomena RC Church, Livingston, NJ, where he served as an usher He was an elected Councilman of East Orange, served as Vice President of the Kiwanis Club, East Orange, served as Second Lieutenant of the Nation Guard, was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Livingston, was a member of Our Lady of Peace RC Church Holy Name Society and was active in several New Jersey state florist associations.

He was predeceased by his brother, Robert A. Norman. Alphy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy (nee Buzzi) Norman, his four children Alpheus J. Norman, IV and his wife Jeneene of Montville, NJ, Gary C. Norman and his wife Linda of Flanders, NJ, Mark P. Norman of Parsippany, NJ, Nancy A. Norman of Mt. Arlington, NJ, four grandchildren David, Garrett, Peter and Michael Norman and a sister in law Audrey Norman of Florida.
