Alonzo Phillips, also known as “Lonnie” or “Lon”, a native Washingtonian, was born on November 14, 1962 to Lonnie (predeceased) and Shirley A Phillips.

Alonzo Phillips departed this life just as he entered it on November 14, 2022. Alonzo attended Ballou Senior High School and thereafter went on to join the United States Army. He was later awarded an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army and a BA degree in Architecture One.

Alonzo was brilliant. He possessed a photographic memory. For years, he was deeply into physical fitness, including bike riding, weightlifting and all things Bruce Lee. He played basketball, football, and bowled. Later he took an interest in chess and became a passionate player as well. Alonzo swore he was the “Master Chess Champ”!

Alonzo possessed various skills; he could design, install, fix, and repair almost anything. Not only was he skilled with his hands; the ladies couldn’t help but to admire and adore how handsome and good-looking Alonzo was!! Alonzo was talented vocally as well. He would capture your attention just by smiling and signing to the ladies! Alonzo was a true ladies’ man! Alonzo would always say– “It’s a love thing, y’all!”

Yes, Lon taught us how to keep on loving in spite of and whatever the circumstances of life. For the Bible teaches us, “Love suffereth long, love beareth all things, endureth all things. Love never fails.” I Corinthians 13 Even death cannot stop love. Alonzo was loved. Alonzo is still loved. The beautiful thing is, he knew it!.

Lonnie is survived by his daughters LaTia Lorick and Kenyatta Davis; seven grandchildren, his Mom Shirley A. Walton, siblings “Big Sis” Grace M. Kelly and “Lil Sis” Celestine Day; and a host of other loving family members and friends.
