Almena Rakes Rebert, age 94 of the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford, PA, formerly of Westminster, died Wednesday January 6, 2010 at the Brethren Home Community Health Care Center. She was born November 8, 1915 in Floyd, Virginia the daughter of the late Samuel and Della Mae Burgess Rakes. She was the wife of the late Norman O. Rebert, Sr. who died in 2000. She moved to Maryland in 1923 and graduated from New Windsor High School. She married Norman O. Rebert in 1935. She and her husband operated several businesses including Rebert’s Egg Sales and Thunderhead Bowling Lanes in Westminster, Taneytown and Biglerville, PA. Later they retired to split their time between residences in Westminster and Honolulu. She attended both Westminster Church of the Brethren and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Honolulu. She loved cross word puzzles, music and going to antique shops. She enjoyed entertaining family and friends.
She is survived by children, Norman O. Rebert, Jr. of Bellemeade, NJ, R. Leon Rebert of McClure, PA, Carol A. Whitenton of Manchester, MD, Douglas W. Rebert of Lancaster, PA and Frances R. McGee of Millers, MD; foster son, Mustak Ebrahimji of Suwanee, GA; sisters, Mary Yohn of Hanover, Pa, Lorraine H. Saxon of Elkton, MD and Ava Condon of Sarasota, Fla.; also survived by 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sister, Ina M. Langdon and brothers, David, Posey, Cecil and Leonard Rakes.
