Alma Townend Adams, 90, passed away on February 23, 2011 at a local care facility in Boise of complications associated with a traumatic brain injury. She was born on January 21, 1921 in Pocatello, Idaho to Ada and Archer Townend. She graduated from Pocatello High School in 1938 and moved to Long Beach, California with her parents and brother where she attended Long Beach City College.
Alma met her third husband, Ronald H. Adams, at the Long Beach Fire Department where she was secretary to the fire chief. They were married in 1954 and remained in southern California until the late 1960s when they moved to Pocatello. She was the office manager for the Buxton Advertising Agency in Pasadena, California and an executive secretary for the Raytheon Company in Sana Ana. In 1969, they relocated to Boise to open a business. Alma worked in various positions for the Idaho Law Enforcement Planning Commission for 15 years. She was the administrative secretary to the director of the Commission and became an Information/Public Relations Specialist in 1975. She served as a planner/evaluator for the Juvenile Justice team before she retired.
Alma was an excellent golfer who played several times a week throughout the year with her husband after they retired. Both of them were the proud recipients of trophies for hole-in-one shots. They were dedicated football fans and watched most of the major golf tournaments. Alma loved animals especially her cats.
Alma is preceded in death by her parents, her brother John “Jack” Townend who was killed in 1944 during World War II on Leyte Island in the Philippines and Ron, her husband of 45 years. She is survived by her sister Norma (Vince, deceased) Davis, Pocatello; her nieces Carolyn (Steve) Cox, Anacortes, Washington; Marilyn Davis, Pocatello; and her nephew, Jack (Eddy) Davis, Pocatello, and their sons JV and Jeff.
