Alma Susan (Day) Gull Young, 96, entered the gates of heaven, united with loved ones and her Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 1, 2015. She was born November 3, 1919 in Konawa, Oklahoma to Daniel Franklin Day and Nancy Susan (White) Day.
When Alma was 5 years old the family moved to San Pedro, California during the Great Dust Bowl. Those of that generation know how hard times were. She attended school there up to the 9th grade and met the love of her life, Chester Eugene Gull, who worked for Western Union. The newspaper said, a “C-Gull” delivers telegrams in San Pedro, so his nickname was “C-Gull” and stuck from then on. They were married for 55 years before his passing. Alma was a dutiful wife and mother caring for her husband and two daughters, keeping a clean house, cooking breakfast at 5:00 a.m. every morning and ironing work clothes and sheets. She was a good cook making the best gravy toast and onion soup.
They resided in Harbor City, California until moving to Idaho in 1991 to be with family. Alma never claimed to be educated, but was talented and wise in many ways. She was a beautiful woman and loved to look nice, dressing up in style, fixing her hair and make-up every day. She loved to dance and make friends at the Senior Center in Caldwell and for a while was on the Senior Bowling League at Caldwell Bowl.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Gull; her second husband, Earnest Young; daughter, Marlene Makinster; and all of her 9 siblings.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna (Wayne) Schuler; grandsons, Rodney (Maria) Makinster, and Aaron (Sandra) Schuler; 6 great-grandchildren; and 10 great great-grandchildren, which made 5 generations.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Spring Ridge Assisted Living and Karcher Estates Rehab, along with Accent Hospice and Heart n’ Home Hospice for their loving care of Alma.
