 Alma Mae Stockdale Swingley, 82, Anderson, went to be with the Lord on October 11, 2009. She was born in Frankton on September 26, 1927.

She lived in Portland, New Castle, Kokomo, Frankton and Elwood during her father’s railroad career. She was a 1946 graduate of Wendall Wilkie High School in Elwood. She met her husband, Raymond, at the Aladdin factory in Alexandria and they married September 4, 1949. They moved to Anderson in 1953 where she resided the rest of her life.

Alma was a Cub Scout den mother in the early 1960s and then joined the Wapahani Girl Scouts in 1963 as an adult volunteer. She was a troop leader and a day camp director for many years and did a lot of volunteer work at the Girl Scout office. She received the highest award in girl scouting, the Thanks Badge.

In her younger days, she played with a traveling softball team from Elwood and she always enjoyed watching a variety of sports. Alma loved going to movies and plays. Her last play was in New York City in 2007 with her daughter and granddaughter. She loved traveling. Alma traveled in Western Europe and extensively in the USA.

She is survived by her son, John & wife Ruby Swingley of Anderson and daughter, Mary & husband Roger Eldridge at Fortville; grandchildren, Autumn Swingley, Kim & Sammy Evans, Alissa & Brian Schuyler, Jeremy & Jennie Eldridge and Nikki Biven & fiancé Erik Edwards; great grandchildren, Austin & Kelsi Eldridge, Anakin Evans, Grant Boles, Annie & Cristian Schuyler, Wesley Biven & Alexis Preer; special nephew, Walter Sheets and sister-in-law, Betty Stockdale.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Swingley; her parents; brothers, Luther, Donald, John, Charles, Carl, Billy, David and Bobby Stockdale; sisters, Geri Villars and Mary Stockdale; and grandson, Eric Lee Eldridge.
