Alma Marie Lester, 86, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday afternoon, Nov. 25, 2012, at her home.

Alma was born in Grundy, Va. April 18, 1926, to the late Miles A. and Lena C. (Yates) Horn. She married Bud Lester Feb. 7, 1942. He died July 27, 2003.

Surviving are her children, Elizabeth L. (Clyde) Hulsey Sr., James Richard (Marsha) Lester, Rita L. (Victor) Conway, Lena B. (Jim) Owens and Susan M. (Jim) Pittman; adopted grandson, Steve Potts Lester; Tina and Joey Quraishi, whom she helped raise; brothers Richard H. Horn, Willard Horn and Harold (Shirley) Horn; 32 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, daughters Peggy S. Lester and Betty C. Goorhouse; brothers Darrel B. Lester, Tony W. Lester and Elisha A. “Bucky” Lester; grandsons Elisha Lester Jr. and Jack Pittman; and her brother, Kermit Horn, preceded her in death.

Alma was a homemaker, and formerly worked for Calco Industries in Elkhart. She loved to cook, garden, sew and crochet. However, most important to Alma was spending time with her family. She also enjoyed collecting angels and humming birds. Alma was taken care of the last four months at her granddaughter Judie Allen’s home by her and daughter Lena Owens.
