Allene Darnell

July 6, 1936 – December 4, 2020

Allene Monteith Darnell, age 84 of Fayette, AL passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL.

Allene was preceded in death by her husband, Harmon C. Darnell Sr., parents, Allene Bostick Monteith and Colin S. Monteith, Jr. as well as her brothers, Colin S. Monteith,III and Edmund Hayward Monteith.

She is survived by her children Allene Darnell Crew and Harmon C. Darnell Jr.(Steve), her grandsons Jesse Colin Crew and Wesley Harmon Crew (Andrea), as well as several nieces and nephews and their children.

Allene was born and raised in Columbia, SC, attended Dreher High School and later, Brenau College in Gainsville, GA. After marrying Harmon in 1957, she moved to Owensboro, Ky where they lived until 1979. At that time, they moved to Fayette, AL when American Olean Tile Co. built their plant. She loved life in Fayette and soon became involved in church and community. She was active at the First United Methodist Church of Fayette, Progress Club, Music Study Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, two bridge clubs as well as other civic groups. She and Harmon loved to travel and were active with a group of friends that attended Alabama ball games, Mardi Gras and trips to the Gulf. She is probably best remembered for her cooking, hosting parties and sharing homemade dishes with others in the community.
