Allen V. Dunn, 93, of the Holiday City West section of Berkeley Township, NJ a devoted husband, father and grandfather, died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Community Medical Center, Toms River, NJ. Born in Newark, NJ he lived in Totowa, NJ before moving to Holiday City 19 years ago. Allen served in the US Navy during World War II and served at Lakehurst, NJ where he flew Blimps.
He worked as a pressman for several companies for 46 years and printed one of the inaugural copies of Hawaii. He was a brave man that led a full life, he loved to tell jokes and sing sea shanties and naval songs including “A Capital Ship” and Gilbert and Sullivan’s “H.M.S. Pinafore”. His passion was reading. Allen was a dapper man always dressing for the occasion always carrying a pocket knife and a handkerchief. A communicant of St Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Twsp, the American Legion Post 502, Whiting, NJ and the National Fife and Drum Corp, Newark, NJ for 25 years. Predeceased by his parents Allen and Mary nee Devine.
Surviving is his loving wife of 66 years, Grace M. nee Kuhmann; 2 daughters, Ruth Graepel and her husband John and Maureen Sheleg and her husband William; 1 son, Allen F. and his wife Kathleen; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
