Allen Stevens, 84, of Edwardsburg, Michigan, died peacefully at his home Thursday, February 16, 2017.

Allen was born July 7, 1932, in Cassopolis, Michigan to the late Dr. Cash and Helen Stevens.

Throughout the years, he always spoke fondly of his childhood growing up in Cassopolis. Allen was a dedicated Ranger Athlete at Cassopolis High School and a graduate and loyal supporter of Michigan State University. A devoted sports fan, he loved watching football, basketball, and baseball games including his favorite teams the Detroit Lions and Tigers. He was an avid reader especially during his retirement years, preferring mystery and crime novels as well as nonfiction that ranged from politics to sports to economics. Fishing was his favorite outdoor pastime, especially his Canadian trips. Allen loved his family and they were of primary importance to him. Caring for them deeply helped assuage the loss of two of his children, Peggy and Andrew, Sr.

A sister, Althea, also preceded him in death. He is survived by one daughter Mary Ann of Mason, Michigan and three grandchildren, Andrew Jr., and Eric, both of Colorado and Ashley (Yar Chhuon) of Edwardsburg. Allen has three great-grandchildren that he dearly enjoyed during family gatherings, Madeline, Ara, and Remington.

In the early years of his career, Allen worked in the Dairy Laboratory at Michigan State; then after a two-year stint as a chemist at Miles Laboratories, he joined the Bache Brokerage Firm in Niles. That career lasted twenty-five years which included a move to the South Bend office, from which he retired. Allen will be remembered for his smile, his wonderful sense of humor and his genuine compassion for others. Jokes made him laugh and he was compelled to share them with many of his friends. He made everyone around him feel as though they were special. He never lost touch with friends and family members that were important to him. Allen loved his country and served as an Army officer in the Korean War. Sharing the stories/experiences of those years gave Allen great pleasure and revealed how proud he was to serve his country.
