Allen Lee “Tim” Tyler, 77, a resident of Glen Burnie, Maryland for 41 years and previously of Baltimore, Maryland, died of congenital heart failure at the University of Maryland on January 15th.
He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on March 16, 1933 to William T. and Erma Tyler. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, served in the U.S. Army and then graduated from the University of Maryland in 1961 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He then worked for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFS), retiring after 38 years of service in 1997. His technical expertise in support of the development of the DIRBE instrument launched aboard the COBE spacecraft helped to provide scientists, both at Goddard and around the world, an unprecedented glimpse of our early universe.
