Allan Penny Bloxsom, Jr. passed away in his home in Boerne, Texas on October 2, 2021.
He was born on March 18, 1933, to Dr. Allan P. Bloxsom and Helen Mitchell Bloxsom. His father delivered him at the Old Memorial Hospital on Fannin Street in Houston, Texas. Allan was a 4th generation Houstonian. The original family home was on Henderson Street and Washington Ave. Allan grew up on Chilton Street and attended River Oaks Elementary. He graduated from Kinkaid High School where he was Class President of his senior year. He was fortunate to have spent many fun times at the Prade Ranch in Leakey Texas with family and friends.
Allan attended The University of Texas at Austin, while there he married Harriett (Bebe) Godley Bloxsom. The two met in middle school and were reunited in college. They were married for 61 years until she preceded him in death on August 3, 2016.
His life was enhanced by his friendships. Many friendships were made with the introduction to the sport of Wrestling. Allan excelled at Wrestling and was the State Champion of the 120-pound class. Allan was also a part of the University of Texas Wrestling and Dive Teams. While attending the University of Texas during the Korean Conflict he enlisted in the Air Force. He earned his wings in the Class of 1955 as a second lieutenant at Goodfellow Air Force Base and served two years of active duty while stationed in France. Allan had over 2500 hours of flying time before he left the Air Force. While in France, Allan and Harriett delivered their first child, Allan, III. Upon returning from active duty, he completed his Mechanical Engineering degree at The University of Texas, and at that time they had their second child, Carol. After graduation, they returned to Houston where he started his career in Mechanical Engineering. While at Houston Natural Gas in the ‘70s, he helped design the central plant that serviced the Medical Center. He worked many years for multiple paper mills redesigning their HVAC systems. In the ’80s, Allan started Bloxsom and Associates. His first big project was getting Methodist Hospital’s operating rooms in compliance with HVAC. He worked at Methodist for several years and multiple VA Hospital’s HVAC systems around the state. His favorite VA Hospital was, of course, the Kerrville VA. Allan was a long-time member of the American Society of Heating and Ventilation Engineers.
Allan loved his life with his wife, Bebe, son Allan and daughter Carol. Allan kept a record of all their beloved four-legged friends, Misty, Missy, Dixie 1, Dixie 2, Thomas, Cocoa, Sandy, and Ginger. Their last furry friend Misty, was their favorite companion, loyal and protective never leaving their side. All of their puppies were strays or pound puppies.
Allan loved his greenhouse and orchid collection. His wife, Bebe, would make corsages for the High School students from Allan’s Orchid Greenhouse. He loved fishing the jetties and the rivers and creeks of the Texas Hill Country. He enjoyed bird hunting with his best friend, Pat Rutherford.
Allan is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Harriett (Bebe) Godley Bloxsom; his parents, Dr. Allan and Helen Bloxsom; and his brother, Wayne Bloxsom.
He is survived by his son, Allan P. Bloxsom, III and wife Liza; his daughter, Carol Bloxsom Little and husband Mark; his grandchildren, Catherine N. Bloxsom, Allan “Penn” Bloxsom IV, Truett S. Bloxsom, Tristen A. Bloxsom, Emily A. Little, and James T. Little; and his sister, Helen Bloxsom Davis.
We want to give a special “Thank You” to all the loving and dedicated caregivers that we have been blessed with over the past eight years. We especially want to mention Joyce Boone, Valerie Valenciano Estrada, Elijah Hawkins as they were with our father until the end and all loved him so well. We also want to mention Jennifer Rust, Sherry Walker, Dani Yeverino, and Jennie Haines for their outstanding loving care as well. We want to extend our Gratitude to Jessie Parkman from Peterson Hospice; she went above and beyond to always make sure the needs of our father were taken care of and that we all had a clear understanding of the next step. Thank you, Kerrville VA, for always being there to serve us, we are so blessed and grateful for your care. Thank you to the Ft.
