Alison Mitchell passed away on April 2, 2022.
Alison was born on February 16, 1963, in Ogden, Utah, the third child of Judith Pugmire Mitchell and Ralph William Mitchell. Her two brothers, Christopher and Eric, were thrilled to have a little sister, and through the years have been great protectors and friends. Alison attended Polk Elementary School, Mount Ogden Junior High School, and graduated from Ogden High School.
Following high school, Alison attended Utah State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design. She enjoyed her college experience, her membership in Alpha Chi Omega, a variety of roommates and living experiences, and made many good friends. After graduation, Alison worked for several interior design firms in the Salt Lake City area before leaving to pursue her Master of Interior Architecture degree at the University of Oregon. After completing her degree, she returned to Salt Lake City and continued working for interior architecture firms, using her skills for the last 20 years of her career at the firm of GSBS Architects. While there, she made significant contributions to the interior design of hundreds of commercial, civic, educational, medical, and high security buildings in Utah, Idaho, and Colorado. Notably, she was the lead designer for the Salt Lake City Public Safety Building, the new Utah Correctional Facility, the Cottonwood Heights Municipal Center, the Olympic Oval Connection in Kearns, Utah, and the UVU Student Life Building, in Orem, Utah.
Despite serious health issues for most of her life, Alison lived with grace, courage, and kindness. Throughout her life, she chose to live, to accomplish, and to learn. She was well traveled, visiting many places in the US and overseas, and was very well read. She was a great conversationalist, was fun, and funny. She had the magical ability to lift and cheer those who tried to lift and cheer her.
She turned her home and garden into places of beauty and comfort. They reflected her unique and excellent taste.
Alison loved, and was loved by her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, grandparents, and her many friends and colleagues. She loved her Boston Terrier, Neko. We all are better for having had Alison in our lives; she will be terribly missed by all.
Alison was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
