Alida Jeanetta Vander Molen, the daughter of Cornelius and Johanna Vander Kieft Stam, was born near Tracy, Iowa on December 15, 1927, the ninth of ten children. She attended grade school in Tracy and Beacon. She attended Pella Christian High School for two years and graduated from Oskaloosa High School in 1945. After graduation, she worked as an Aid in Mercy Hospital in Oskaloosa.

On January 8, 1948 she was united in marriage to Bernard Vander Molen in Oskaloosa, Iowa. After their marriage they lived near Peoria for one year. They then moved to a farm near Pella.

On Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, Alida passed from this life to be with her Savior at the age of 83 years. Her family includes her children and their spouses: Lauren and Marilyn (Spoelstra) Vander Molen of Harvey, Kathleen (Robert) Van Donselaar of Pella, Janet (Mike) Evinger of Knoxville, Robert and Terri (Arkema) Vander Molen of Pella, and Ruth Harding of Knoxville; thirteen grandchildren: Michelle (Eric) Fopma, Daryl (Kristen) Vander Molen, Renae Vander Molen, Kayla Vander Molen, Julie (Curt) Hooyer, Amy (Chris) Stoltzfus, Craig Van Donselaar, Nichole (Matthew) Davis, Brett Evinger, Michael (Susan) Vander Molen, Kyle (Audrey) Vander Molen, Lisa (Jon) Pederson, Taylor Harding; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sister Johanna Vander Wiel of Pella, two sisters-in-law: Helen Stam of Holland, Michigan and Wilma Stam of Oskaloosa, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sisters Cornelia (Kay) Sturing, Margaret Klyn, and Jannet Groenenboom, her brothers Frank, Henry, Gerrit, Marion, and Albert Stam; her sisters-in-law Lenora Bruns, Jannet Stam, and Esther Stam; brothers-in-law Frank Sturing, Gerald Klyn, Harlan Groenenboom, William De Graaf, and Gerald Vander Wiel; and her son-in-law Charles Vander Werff.
