Born Alice Ruth Molander on May 31, 1920, Alice M. Halstedt died at Middlesex Hospital on June 18, 2012 after a brief illness. She was 92 years old. Mrs. Halstedt was predeceased by Ernest, her husband of 63 years, who was for many years Assistant Attorney General of the State of Connecticut. She is survived by three children and their spouses: Linda and Dale Ursin of East Hampton, Bob and Ellen Halstedt of Portland and Steve and Susan Halstedt of Englewood, Colorado; by eight grandchildren and their spouses and ten great grandchildren, as well as by her sister, Barbara Warner. Alice was a 1939 graduate of Northfield Seminary. She attended Russell Sage College and graduated from Katherine Gibbs in Boston. Alice was always very active in her community. She was an organizer and leader of the Girl Scouts in Middletown and chaired that organization in Cromwell. She was elected a State Representative for two terms from 1963 to 1967 and was a candidate for State Senate in 1968. Alice managed numerous successful campaigns for other candidates. She served on or chaired a number of state, regional and local Boards and Commissions. Alice was also a member of the State Senate Republican staff for many years, retiring in 1980 as Office Manager and Researcher. Former Governor M. Jodi Rell officially proclaimed February 12, 2010 “Alice Halstedt Lifetime Achievement Day” in recognition for all she had done for the State of Connecticut and the Town of Cromwell.
