Alice Mary (Whinery) Williams, age 98, of Copeland Oaks, Sebring, a former resident of Stewart Road, Salem died at 6:36 p.m. Saturday, February 27, 2016 in the Emergency Room at the Salem Regional Medical Center. She was born June 24, 1917 in Butler Township near Winona the daughter of the late Marius and Anna (Bartges) Whinery.
Alice was an accounting clerk for 25 years with the former Deming Company and Crane Deming. She was a 1935 graduate of Salem High School and attended Salem Business College. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Salem where she was treasurer for 35 years and a Sunday School Teacher. Alice was a member and past president of the United Methodist Women, a member and past Matron of the Salem Order of Eastern Star #344, member and past president of the Salem YWCA, life member of the Salem Historical Society, member and past president of the Salem Book Club, member of the Salem Order of Amaranth, and on the original board of the Quaker Community Day Care Center and served as treasurer the first 20 years. Alice was active in many areas at Copeland Oaks where they moved to in 1990 from their home on Stewart Road.
Her husband, John H. Williams, whom she married April 15, 1967, preceded her in death on April 20, 1991. A sister, Geneva Sanor; four brothers, George, Wallace, Clarence J. and Norman C. Whinery and a step daughter, Janet Williams Shafer Toom also preceded her in death.
Survivors include one-step daughter, Judy (Wayne) Erbes of Buffalo, New York; son-in-law, James Toom of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren.
