Alice M. Oana, age 91, of Johns Creek, Georgia, formerly of Salem, died Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Autumn Leaf Nursing Home in Suwanee, Georgia. She was born February 8, 1923 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late George and Josephine (Chulak) Sobona. Alice had been office manager for the Lowry Supply in Salem for 27 years and was a Salem High School graduate. She was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church and the Salem Elks Lodge #305 Women’s Auxiliary. She volunteered with the Hello Unit at the hospital, member of the Hospital Auxiliary, past national president of AMVETS Auxiliary and because of this she and her team were able to initiate the War Memorial in Salem. She and her husband, enjoyed Saturday night dancing for many years. Her husband, Mateiu “Mike” Oana, Jr., whom she married July 26, 1947, preceded her in death August 16, 2002. A son, Ted Oana also preceded her in death August 28, 1966. Survivors include a son, Jay (Mary) Oana of Johns Creek, Georgia; three grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Oana of Columbia, SC, Shawn (Melanie) Oana of Las Vegas, NV and Jami (Dr. Garrod) Moss of Mississippi; and two great-grandsons.
