I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith! Finally the crown of righteousness is reserved for me. The Lord, the righteous Judge, will award it to me in that day—and not to me only, but also to all who have set their affection on his appearing.
Mrs. Alice Lee Castleberry-Franklin was born on February 26, 1959 to the late Frank and Helen Wilson and to James and Liza Castleberry in Talladega County. She also leaves behind an elderly father, Mr. Beasley Martin Sr.
Alice studied at Birmingham Southern University and graduated. She was offered a job out of college in Birmingham and declined in efforts to care for Aunt Liza. As her first job, she worked at the state Health Department and later worked for Winn Dixie where she gained not just co workers but an extended family.
Alice enjoyed sports and loved traveling to children and grandchildren games, events, recitals, awards, and events. She loved to fish —— but would not dare take the fish off the hook. She was a lover of animals. From feeding Bambi (her stray deer) , to taking care of Kitty (her stray cat), to managing her chicken coupe, to feeding her fish, and watching her birds, Alice appreciated all of God’s creation.
On November 12, 2018, Alice went home to be with the lord. She leaves behind her loving husband, David Franklin (Bam); two sons, LaCourtney Datrone Castleberry and Gerald Jermaine Wallace; two special children Matishie Garrett (daughter) and Cornelius Garrett (son); seven siblings, Eugene Marbury (Ruth), Nina Faye Marbury (Eugene), Frank Jr (Minnie), Gwendolyn Turner ( Warren), Susie Borden Mcelrath (Matthew), Willie L Wilson, Melvin Wilson; 9 grand children, 1 great grand child and host of relatives and friends.
