Alice Kay Chesnut Shell, 73, of Sharpsburg, GA passed away on July 11, 2020. A life-long resident of Coweta County, she was born on October 23, 1946 in Newnan, GA to James Thomas “J.T.” and Helen Chesnut, both of whom preceded her in death. Kay graduated from Newnan High School in 1964 and attended LaGrange College before marrying Jerrel Mason Shell of Palmetto, GA in 1965. For over fifty-five years nothing could separate the couple aside from Jerrel’s service in Vietnam. Upon his return, they made their home on the Chesnut family farm in Sharpsburg. Kay worked in mortgage banking for many years, retiring from BB&T in 2009. Kay is survived by her husband Jerrel, her children Melissa Love Shell Turner and husband Jason of Sharpsburg and Spencer Thomas Shell and wife Teresa of Atlanta. She succeeded in spoiling three grandchildren, Henry Allan, Mason McDaniel, and Martha-Kathleen Chesnut Shell who knew her affectionately as “Lovey”. Kay loved flowers and perfected the art of hosting events, large and small. She felt that the most important thing in life is love and all whom she encountered experienced her unquestioning love for others. The 1964 class of Newnan High School voted Kay “Most Likely to Succeed” and as a wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and Christian, she spent her entire life doing just that.
