Alice E. Hicks transitioned this life unexpectedly on Sunday, April 3, 2016 when the Lord called her name to relocate to her new home He had prepared for her.
Alice was born on March 12, 1935 to the late Ashton and Sally Ann Edmonds in their family home in Blackstone, VA.
Alice attended Nottoway County public schools and Nottoway County Training High school in Blackstone, VA.
Alice married David Hicks II in 1952, her first love, the love of her life. After having three children David decided to move his family to Washington, DC for a chance at a better job to support his family. Alice then decided to jump into the employment world and received employment training that yielded her a position with the Government Printing Office (GPO) as a Book Binder Worker during the night shift.
Alice’s co-workers could tell that Alice was nearby before she walked into a room because of the fragrance that she wore, which was White Diamonds by Elizabeth Taylor. White Diamonds was definitely Alice’s signature fragrance; she wore it for 48 years. She would not leave home without it, just like the American Express Card. Alice and David then added three more children which was then called the Six-Pack; four boys and two girls.
In 1969 Alice decided to become a homeowner and purchased her first home with her Six-Pack (children). Alice had a Big heart as she opened her home to many family members and friends who needed a temporary place to stay. Alice retired in May 1995 from the Government Printing Office after 27 years of service.
Alice was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church until she became ill and unable to regularly attend service.
David II and Charles L. Hicks preceded her in death.
Alice leaves to cherish her loving but stern memories: two daughters, Linda and Brenda; three sons, David III, Dennis, and Ronald Hicks; eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two favorite sister in-laws; Janice Edmonds of Maryland and Susie Edmonds of Blackstone, VA., nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends.
