Alice Erlyne Lawter
As the final celebration of her life, we mark the passing of Alice Erlyne Lawter, age 85, of Melbourne, Florida. Alice (Erlyne to her family) left us on March 5th, leaving her husband, Ret. Col. Owen R. Lawter, and her children Leanna Lawter and Michael Lawter. Her daughter Brianna Chadic predeceased her in 2021. Alice also leaves her three cats, Cici, Chaco, and Max.
Alice was born in Alpine, Texas, to Marie Anice Bridges Bowers and Overton Earl Bowers, and grew up in Del Rio, Texas, where she graduated from Del Rio High School. She attended the University of Texas, El Paso, until she met and married her soulmate and love of her life, then Lt. Owen Lawter.
Alice was an accomplished folk artist who had a thriving craft business locally. Alice was a proud and active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (the Abigail Wright Chamberlain chapter of Melbourne, FL), having identified seventeen revolutionary ancestors through her extensive genealogy research. Alice will be best remembered by her family for her amazing “Nana” breakfasts, her over-the-top holiday decorations for every holiday, being the most enthusiastic girl scout leader and boy scout den mother ever (lots of badges and camping trips), and always being there for her children to help with first home renovations (she was an expert at hanging wallpaper), with parental advice (solicited and unsolicited), and to help raise her five grandchildren, Dalton Werner, Channing Adair, Emory Werner, Logan Werner, and Derrick Lawter.
Alice was an animal lover, and never said no to any pet that needed a home or that was brought home by one of her children.
