Alice Chesnut, 81, of Three Oaks, Michigan and Florida, died Sunday, May 29, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa, Florida. Alice was born August 29, 1929 in Wilmington, Illinois to Elmer and Eleanor (Welsh) Smith. On July 24, 1949 she married John “Jack” Chesnut in New Lenox, Illinois. Alice earned her Masters Degree in Education from Michigan State University.
She was a beloved 4th grade teacher at the Three Oaks Elementary School for 28 years.Survivors include her husband, Jack; daughter Gail Chesnut of Tampa, Florida; grandson, John T. Chesnut; sisters, Helen (William) Kolkal of New Lenox, Jean Cinkovich of Joliet, Illinois and Joyce (Gordon) Davis of Joliet and her brother James Smith of Joliet. Her son, John Chesnut, preceded her in death on July 19, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Smith.
