 Alice Lee Kemp, beloved and devoted wife to Harry Wesley Kemp, Jr., departed this life on Saturday, May 23, 2020. She was born on January 4, 1939 in Kinston, North Carolina to the late James and Gladys Franklin. After the untimely death of her mother, she received love and nurturing from her stepmother, Tessie Franklin. “Little’n”, as she was affectionately called was the third of thirteen children. She was named for her grandmother, Alice. She was a fun and loving child, who enjoyed gymnastics and dancing. At an early age, Alice learned to take on the challenging responsibilities of caring for her siblings. She and her two older sisters stepped in to help with raising their younger siblings. She was educated in the Kinston Public School System. Alice met Harry in Kinston, NC, where he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, when he served in the United States Marine Corp. She moved to Washington, DC, where they dated and later married in June 1966.
