Alfred Graves Sr. was born January 1, 1927 to the late Alex and Nettie Cheek Graves in Coleridge, NC. The Lord called Alfred Sr. from labor to reward Thursday evening, December 13, 2018 at Hospice in Asheboro, NC. Although it was sudden, it was an appointment he couldn’t cancel.
Alfred was educated in the public school system at Craven School in Randolph County, NC and Chatham County Training School in Siler City, NC. He joined Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was a believer in God and accepted Jesus Christ as his savior. He served willingly and faithfully in the Deep River Association. Alfred was joined in Holy Matrimony to Wheatley Staley before God.
The Lord blessed this union with four children, Alfred Jr., Phyllis, Richard and Vanessa. He was employed with Watson Poultry, Burlington Industries, Chatham Novelties and retired from Ramtex. Alfred enjoyed farming, gardening, being involved in church activities and enjoyed being around his family.
Alfred was preceded in death by: his wife, Wheatley Graves; one daughter, Phyllis Graves; his parents, Alex and Nettie Graves; seven brothers, William, Harvey, Junior Obadiah, Banks, Hoover, Elworth and Garland Graves; and five sisters, Maxine Bowden, Mattie Graves, Vivian Siler, Jessie Roy and Ruth Graves.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Alfred Jr. (Diana) Graves of Ramseur, NC, Richard Graves of Coleridge, NC, Vanessa Graves (Jerry) Isley of Asheboro, NC; one brother, Enos (Joyce) Graves of Coleridge, NC; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Graves of Washington, DC and Dora Graves Staley of Coleridge, NC; three grandchildren, Jarvis, Dominque and Cyrstal; three great-grandchildren, Aria, Amaria and Rannon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
