Alfred E. Gratrix Sr. age 85, passed away January 5, 2022 in Bridgeport Hospital. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Herbert and Frances Gratrix and lived most of his life in Trumbull, CT. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a B.S. in Engineering and continued his education receiving an M.B.A. from Sacred Heart University and successfully completed the Harvard Business Executive Education Program. Alfred proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the early 60s aboard the USS DeLong (DD-129) and loved to tell tales of his ship’s involvement in the Bay of Pigs incident.

He started his engineering career at Norden in Norwalk, followed by U.S. Baird and American Chain and Cable.  He retired as Director of Engineering at Marlin Firearms in North Haven.  He obtained many patents through the years and up until his passing was constantly working from his home workshop creating children’s toys,  improvements to home building supplies and gifts for family and friends.

He is predeceased by his wife Marilyn Hahn Gratrix, his second wife Betty Jean (Goodwin Link) Gratrix and his sister in-law Helen Gratrix of Trumbull. He is survived by his son Alfred E. Gratrix Jr. and wife Nancy Austin of Westport, and their children Todd Austin of Westport , daughter Megan Philpott of Weston, her husband Brian and their daughters Kate and Hannah, and by his second son Edward Gratrix and his wife Danielle of Monroe, and their two sons Jacob and Matthew; also by his brother Herbert Gratrix of Trumbull and his step son Jason Link and family in PA, and many nieces and nephews.
