Alfred “Al” C. Holman, 74, a longtime Upton resident, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 21, at his home. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Marilyn (Peck) Holman.

Born in Valparaiso, IN, he was a son of the late Alfred M. and Elizabeth (Krieger) Holman and was raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was educated at Valparaiso Technical Institute, Valparaiso, Indiana.

Al served in the U.S.

Al and Marilyn have been the owners of Town Crier Publications for 33 years. They founded the community newspaper in Upton and Mendon, and then branched out to cover Milford. Throughout those years, Al was also active in Upton municipal government, serving on the Mendon-Upton School Committee, the Upton Board of Selectmen, and the Board of Health. He could often be found walking around town in his trademark suspenders talking to people; his favorite thing to do.

He enjoyed Red Sox baseball and Patriots football, and was an umpire at local high school baseball games for a number of years. He was a hunter since childhood, and was a member of the Gun Club in Milford. He was an active member of Milford Rotary Club and avid supporter of Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra. He was also a member of Milford Chamber of Commerce.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Andrew Holman of Upton and brother David Holman of McCordsville, IN. He has three nieces in the Holman family and a niece and nephew in Florida from the Peck family, as well as Peck family cousins. He attended many annual Peck family reunions with Marilyn and Andy in Jamesport on Long Island, where all the Pecks gathered at their family cottage and spent wonderful times together since the year Marilyn was born.
