Alfred D. “Butch” Thornburgh, Jr., 80, of Seymour, formerly of Upland, went home to be with the Lord Monday morning December 28, 2020 in Countryside Meadows, Avon. He was born on July 9, 1940, in Michigan, the son of the late Alfred D. “Barney” Thornburgh Sr. and Helen (Patterson) Thornburgh.
He graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1958. He started working, doing what he loved, driving a semi at the age of 20 and had his own for 15 years. He worked for TransCon Lines for 18 years, until it closed and then he worked for TNT Holland until he retired in 2006 after 46 years of driving. Butch married the love of his life, Eve Liggett, on February 14, 1983 and they shared 37 wonderful years together. He was a loving husband, dad, and granddad. He loved taking apart engines and putting them back together.
He loved landscaping and mowing the yard on his farm in Upland until he could no longer do it. He also enjoyed riding dirt bikes with his dad and brothers; he was a dare devil. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, Matthews.
Survivors include his wife, Eve Thornburgh, Seymour; children: Tonya Bragg, Upland; Tammy (Robert) Jones, Opelika, Alabama; John Thornburgh, Gaston; and Kelly Thornburgh, Camby; grandchildren: Nick (Sara); Vincent (Hannah); Jeffrey (Chelsea); Travis (Raeann); Curtis; Mea; Cody; and Casey (Brad); great-grandchildren: Caleb; Harper; Annabelle; Stella; Ethan; Audrey; and two great-granddaughters on the way; siblings: Patsy (John) Logan, Hartford City; Bonnie (Bill) Crain, Hayden, Idaho; Debbie (Dave) Wilson, Muncie; Doc (Kathy) Thornburgh, Marion; and Rich (Jara) Thornburgh, Upland; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Terri and Barry Moorman.
