Michigan Alfred Nicholas Barbieri, age 103, passed away at his home on December 9, 2013. Al was born on October 9, 1910, in Diastico, Italy, and emigrated to the U.S. with his parents at the age of 10 months. His early years were spent growing up in Bangor, and he lived his adult life in Kalamazoo, where he worked at Checker Motors for 47 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters; a brother; and his son, Joseph Barbieri. He is survived by his daughter, Sharron Norman Root; 2 granddaughters, Dawn Root and Melisa Riehl; 4 great grandchildren, Lucien & Alexander Lemke and Angelina & Francesca Riehl; 2 nieces and several nephews. Al’s remains will be placed in Bangor, near his parents.
