Mr. Alexander Yovan, 85, of Roxbury died Friday September 4, 2009 at New Milford Hospital. He was the widower of his beloved wife Carroll (Wagner) Yovan.
Mr. Yovan was born January 16, 1924 in Bridgeport a son of the late George and Christine (Carabinas) Yovanovitch. Al was a veteran of the Second Battalion 137th Field Artillery during WWII.
He was a Science teacher at Booth Free School in Roxbury where he helped organize their science fair. He also taught Science at Shepaug Valley Middle High School in Washington and will be remembered fondly by many students. He had a love of animals and the outdoors, which he shared with all he knew. He also enjoyed sketching and painting. Al was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the UCONN Women’s Basketball Team.
He is survived by two sons, Gregory Yovan and his wife Tinka, and Kurt Yovan. He is also survived by his two daughters, Holly Yovan-Decker and her husband Lawrence and Maureen Canaperi and her husband Donald, a sister, Daphne Owen, several grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
