On April 16, 1936 the world gained a precious light–Alene Yvonne Crosby (nee Tweedy) was born in Rustburg, Virginia to the late Glover Evans Tweedy and Maria Esther Bertha Tweedy (nee Jones). Alene was the seventh of eleven children. There was never a quiet moment in their countryside home, always brimming with activity. She attended public schools in Rustburg and graduated from Campbell County High School in 1954. Alene departed this life on September 30, 2023 after a lengthy illness. Despite it all, she maintained her signature optimistic demeanor, faith, and love of family.

After graduating high school in the country, Alene moved to the big city and worked as a seamstress in New York. She would later move to Washington, D.C. where she would find love and start a family. She married Harold Crosby on October 4, 1962. They would remain married for a lifetime: 61 years, sharing the home and love they built together in our Nation’s Capital until her passing. Alene was a devoted wife and mother. She also loved the Lord and her church community.

Alene was preceded in death by her parents, Glover and Maria Tweedy; brothers Roger (Annie), Glover R. (Mary Susie), Tyria, Alphonso, Dorris (Rachel), Earl, Wyatt; and her son Derek. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband, Harold; one brother, Calvin Tweedy (Harriett); two sisters, Maxine Warren and Sharon Wilson (Marshall); one daughter, Monica Glover; and one son, Orlando Crosby; one granddaughter, Candice Crosby; three grandsons, Julian Glover, Aaron, and Garrett Crosby; one great-grandson, Raj Jenkins; one great-granddaughter, Raelynn Johnson; one daughter-in-law, Kim Crosby; two sisters-in-law, Earnestine Tweedy and Marion Tweedy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Her love and light, though always with us in spirit, will be missed on this earth.
