Aldine Freeman Askew, 99, of Daphne, Alabama, formerly of Newnan, Georgia passed away on February 8, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born in Sycamore, Georgia to Alvin Burdette Freeman and Mabel Royal Freeman. She was a member of the Newnan First United Methodist Church where she was an active member of the Veatch-Nixon class. She was always involved with her daughters’ church, school, and Girl Scout functions. Her favorite pastime activities were golfing at the Newnan Country Club where she served as president of the Ladies Golf Association and volunteering as a Pink Lady at Newnan Hospital for 24 years. Predeceasing her were her parents; her first husband, James William “Bill” Meriwether, who was killed in World War II; her late husband Brittain Simms “Doc” Askew; her sisters Esther Freeman Smith and Dorris Freeman Gilbert; and her nephew Al Gilbert. She is survived by her daughters Ann Askew Headstream and Lee Askew Clarke; grandchildren Rob Headstream, Carole Ann Fields (Chuck) and Michelle Clarke of Daphne, Alabama; William “Britt” Headstream (Jessica) of Rock Springs, Wyoming; nephew Sonny Gilbert of Palmetto, Georgia and Christy Smith Kline of Ball Ground, Georgia.
