Alberto M. Cantu, 75, went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 in Harlingen, Texas. He was born on November 17, 1941 in San Benito, Texas to Angelito and Aurora Cantu. He was a native of Los Indios and had lived in Rio Hondo for 45 years. Alberto served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy; he retired as Captain of the City of Harlingen Fire Dept. He also served on the Knights of Columbus Council 2785. He spent most of his free time fishing and hunting with family and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Angelito and Aurora Cantu; sister, Dora Gonzalez; and brother, Arturo Cantu.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Wilda Sanchez Cantu; their sons, Lino Cantu (Elva) of McAllen and Eduardo Cantu (Juany) of Rio Hondo; daughter, Missy Ortiz (Tony) of Rio Hondo; sisters, Rosie Garza (Hector) of Rio Hondo and Annie Villarreal (Raul) of Laguna Vista; brothers, Angel Cantu (Rachael) of San Benito, Adelmiro Cantu of Victoria, TX, and Arnoldo Cantu (Maggie) of Harlingen; 8 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
