Alberta Scott was born on January 25, 1950 in Kingstree, South Carolina. She was raised in Dania, Florida by her father, William Scott. She would frequently stay with her mother Geneva Scott in Miami, Florida. In 1968 she decided to head north to Washington, DC, there is where she met her husband James Horton. Pledging their love, Alberta and James were wed in Baltimore, Maryland on the glorious summer day of June 17, 1972. Alberta and James lived in Washington, DC for five years then later to purchase their first home in Colmar Manor, Maryland in 1977. They resided in Maryland from then to present and raised their two kids Melissa and Derrick.
Baptized as Baptist, Alberta attended Ebenezer AME church in Ft. Washington, Maryland until she no longer could go due to diabetic complications.
Alberta was also known as a “Go-Getter”, very particular about having things done the way she wanted and when. She enjoyed dancing, playing bingo and being with friends and family.
Alberta is survived by her loving husband, James; two loving kids – Melissa and Derrick; daughter-in-law Deonia; two grandchildren Adasia and Melia; three siblings – Mickey, Florie and Nate; confidant and close friends – Diana Cureton, Margaret Burwell, Lisa Smith and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Alberta Horton was a diabetic for 31 years. Although her spirit was strong, her body grew weak and she died on the morning of September 15, 2015 in her home, with her loving husband James at her side. Her faith in God remained strong until her last breath. She wanted all to know that she loves all those that she has come to know. Alberta will always be remembered as a fun loving, outgoing and genuine person. Although her life here with us has ended, her legacy will continue in her children, husband, family and friends!
