Alberta “Berta” Betty Lou (Cox) McDonald Hanson, 82, of Lafayette, passed away Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at St. Mary Healthcare Center, Lafayette.
Berta was born February 25, 1939, the 14th of 15 children to the late Marshall and Francis (Rankin) Cox. Berta worked as a Housekeeper for the Indiana Veterans Home for many years. She really enjoyed working with and talking to the residents and listening to their stories. On September 16, 1955, Berta, married Fred R. McDonald, he preceded her in death on December 3, 2010. She then married Myron “Mike” E. Hanson on April 30, 2016. Mike preceded her in death on August 4, 2019.
Alberta was a people person. She loved spending time with her family and friends, and she adored children. Her church family was also very important to her. Berta also liked to go camping and fishing and would always joke with Fred that she always caught more fish than he did.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Ramey, Janie Lou Griffith, Raedean “DeDe” (Joe “Buddy”) Bunch, Bobby Ray Rufus, all of Lafayette, and Frieda Jolene Ames of Fl; step-son, Freddie McDonald; 15 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Hensley of KY.
Along with her husbands, Fred and Myron, and her parents, Marshall and Francis; she was preceded in death by 13 siblings; and her daughter Bertha Elizabeth “Liz” Wigger.
