PROSPECT/WATERBURY– Albert W. Miller, 87, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 1, 2009, at the Marathon Health Care Center.
Al was born June 26, 1921, in Naugatuck, the son of the late Albert and Rose (Walther) Miller, and resided most of his life in Waterbury. He was a 1939 graduate of Naugatuck High School. Following high school Al joined his father in running the family business, Al’s Bake Shop in Naugatuck. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, completing Recruit Training School of Newport, RI and Cooks and Bakers School of Boston, MA. He Served in World War II as a first class baker. Upon discharge in 1946 Al received a letter of honor from president Trumann for his duties preformed during his time served.
He is survived by his sister Janis Scionti of Hingham, MA; a nephew, Peter Scionti and his wife Teresa of Prospect; a niece Sandra Halverson and her husband Wayne of Cohasset, MA; two great-nieces, Ashley Scionti and Amelia Zeghibe; and great-nephew Matthew Zeghibe. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Anthony Scionti & great-nephew Nicholas Scionti.
