Lt. Colonel Albert S. Borchik Jr., U.S. Air Forced retired passed away suddenly at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center on January 30, 2013.
Al was born on May 28, 1930 to Albert S. And Marie K Borchik Sr. in Cleveland, Ohio.
Al is preceded in death by his parents and his oldest son Lt. Colonel (Ret) Albert S. Borchik III. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Sally W. Borchik, three sons: Jeffrey R. Borchik and wife LouAnn, George A. Borchik and wife Marianne, Gerald L. Borchik and wife Maria. One daughter: Kimberly A. Ellis and husband Richard. Seven grandchildren: Sara Wade and husband Jamison, Robbie Borchik and wife Amanda, Alan Borchik, Stephen Borchik, Andrew Borchik (fiancé Brandy Mortimer), Alexander Borchik and Elyse Borchik and one great grandchild Emi Wade.
Following graduation from High School in 1948, he attended the College of Wooster before enlisting in the USAF in 1950. Al served from December, 1950 to March, 1977. He served as a B-29 Navigator during the Korean War and as an F-4D pilot during two combat tours in the Vietnam War. The first tour was an Assistant Operations Officer/Flight Commander in the 433 TFS, 8TFW, Ubon RTAFB, Thailand. During his second tour, he served as Deputy Commander for Operations, 12 TFW, PhuCat AB, SVN. Also during this tour, he served as Director of Air Operations, Task Force Alpha, Nakhom Phnom and as Assistant Deputy Commander for Operation, 432 TFW, Udorn RTAFB, Thailand. On March 31, 1977, he retired as Chief of Plans, Fighter Test Directorate, Tactical Air Warfare Center, Eglin AFB, FL. During his Air Force career, in 1952 he attended Aviation Cadet Navigator Training, Pilot Training in 1955, Squadron Officer School in 1961, The Armed Forces Staff College in 1966 and the Air War College in 1971 along with associated Jungle, Arctic, Water and Desert Survival Schools. During his Air Force career Al received numerous Decoration, Citations and Awards. The most recent being The Bronze Star.
