Albert L Greene Jr., 72 of Okeechobee, Florida died Saturday, April 10, 2021, at his home.
Albert was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania on May 1, 1948, to Albert Sr. and Cula (Madden) Greene. He attended Huntingdon High School and in May of 1969, he joined the United States Air Force, where he retired 20 years later as a Master Sergeant.
During his time in the Air Force, he was stationed in the Vietnam Republic; Kadena AFB Okinawa, Japan; Minot AFB, Minot, North Dakota; and Eielson AFB near the North Pole, Alaska, where he retired. Throughout his Air Force career, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Metal in 1971 for Meritorious Service, Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Honorable Discharge Commendation Ribbon, Vietnam Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon with 4 Oak Leave Clusters, and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award.
He met Susan Camarto and was married in Norristown, PA and had one daughter, Tammy Delozier-Lehman, and was later divorced. Al then met Patricia Larrabee married and had one son, Anthony Greene. While they were married, Al, Patricia, and Tony were stationed in Okinawa, Japan. In 1980 they were re-stationed to Minot AFB, Minot, and later divorced, then in 1983 Al and Tony were re-stationed to Eielson AFB.
During Al’s time in Alaska, he and Tony lived in Two Rivers, Alaska, and found many great fishing spots! Once Al retired from the Air Force, he started work as the postmaster for the University of Alaska Fairbanks for many years.
Once Al decided to retire from working and start fishing full-time, he drove out of Alaska to start his search for the best fishing hole.
Al moved to Pennsylvania where he met and married Lavonne and was married for many years. Never being able to sit still, Al left Pennsylvania and traveled around the lower 48, and landed in Swan Valley, Idaho.
During his time in Idaho, he continued to travel throughout the lower 48 states traveling around and fishing with his faithful traveling companion Gypsy. Then as every retired person does, he decided to start wintering in Florida. Once there he found Okeechobee Lake and would travel between Florida and Idaho until 2013 when Al decided to make Florida his home. His sister Shelby would come down from Pennsylvania and spend winters with him until 2016 when she became a full-time Floridian. She and Al loved the Treasure Island area and enjoyed spending time sitting in their chairs watching westerns and people along the cannel behind their house from their screened-in porch.
Most of all he loved fishing and loved taking his pontoon down the canals to go fishing out on Lake Okeechobee with his “oldest” and greatest friend Jim Shevlin. Al would take anyone fishing; it was his full-time retirement job! Then a few years ago, Al bought a saltwater boat, so he could get out fishing on the coast. He had a love for fishing, hunting, and cherished the time spent with his family.
He is survived by his children, Tammy (Mike) Delozier-Lehman of Trough Creek, Pennsylvania, and Tony (Alexa) Greene of Fairbanks, Alaska; grandchildren; sisters Shelby Zielke of Okeechobee, Florida; Nancy (James) Culberson of Jackson Corner, PA; Elva (Carl) Conrad; and brothers Larry Greene of York, PA; Eddie (Sammi) of Two Rivers, Alaska, along with many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by his parents, Albert Sr and Cula Greene.
