Loving Father, Grandfather, WWII Veteran
Albert “Pop” Cerelli, 94, of Prospect, passed away peacefully at his home while surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, January 10, 2022. Al was the widower of his beloved wife Louise Cerelli. He was born in New York City, New York on his mother’s birthday May 14, 1927, a son of the late Rose (Spincola) and Victor Cerelli. After high school, Al enlisted in the Navy where he was a sonar specialist on a submarine in WWII.
Pop was truly a friend and grandfather to all who knew him. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, tennis and especially trips to the casino. He was an accomplished musician, playing the accordion and piano. Pop’s most favorite pastime was watching the NY Mets, NY Jets and UCONN women’s basketball. When asked the secret to his well lived long life, he would say eating hot peppers. Most assuredly his absolute favorite times were spent with his adoring daughter, son in law and grandchildren. He leaves a legacy of dedication to his community and genuine love for family and friends.
Left to cherish his love and memory are his daughter Lisa Rioux and husband Richard with whom he made his home and their three children Emily Wilmot and her husband Ty, Nicholas Rioux and Katie Rioux all of Prospect. As the patriarch of the family, he leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, countless friends and neighbors who were his extended family. Al was predeceased by his wife Louise of 66 years, brothers Victor (Jean) Cerelli and Frank (Rose) Cerelli.
Albert’s family is forever grateful for the love from family and friends during his lifetime in Prospect.
