Albert A. Matzat, 87, of New Haven. passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at Heritage Park in Fort Wayne.

He was born in Armstrong Creek, WI, on November 8, 1934, to the late Adolf and Adele (Gutzeit) Matzat. In his early youth, the family lived in Chicago before settling in North Judson. He graduated from North Judson-San Pierre High School.

In North Judson is where he met his eventual wife Joan Ruth Paulsen. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force. Then he completed boot camp and schooling before coming back to marry Joan. He served for four years and then tried his hand at other jobs. He rejoined the Air Force and retired from the Air Force after 25 years of faithful service.

Albert was born during Wisconsin rabbit season and hunting was in his blood. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was firm and never wavered when he made up his mind.

He was a 55-year member of the American Legion Post #330, New Haven. He was also a member of the Lifeway Wesleyan Church, New Haven.

Albert is survived by his daughter, Angela Paulsen; his son, Dale Matzat; three grandchildren, Sophia Kelsey, Jeremy Kelsey, and Valerie Kelsey.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by two sisters, Ethel Matzat and Adeline Wright; a brother, Edward Matzat; a granddaughter, Rachel Fowler.
