Married on April Fool’s Day in Las Vegas’ Little White Wedding Chapel, how many would think the union would last? But Alanna and JP Jankas proved that love does indeed conquer all. They finished each other’s sentences, laughed when others could not find a punchline and worked together seamlessly raising their three children. They were the perfect team backing each other up while serving patrons attending special events at the restaurant she worked at. She was an outstanding server who could remember what all 20 people had ordered and what they were drinking. Her only difficulty was remembering which direction was right and which was left. With a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Central Oklahoma, she hoped one day to have her own banquet/special events business.
Alanna mastered the use of two words that reached the depths of her family’s hearts: “My Love” she would say. When she spoke those words, the substance of those words penetrated to depths of their souls. She was never the butt of anyone’s joke because she agreed and laughed with them at herself. When she had a girl’s night, she invited JP but none of the other husbands were allowed. She was the queen of the Post It note labeling just about everything in sight. There was no stopping Alanna; the words, “quit” and “give up” were never a part of her vocabulary. She could be described as “selfless”, “unique”, “magnetic”, and “innocent”. She was the master of the one-liners and puns, the joker of the family. Some of Alanna’s passions included: Her faith, family time with JP and their children, playing games with family/friends, Bingo with mom, anywhere with water, dim sum, attending church and multiple bible study classes at Newchurch, singing and hosting dinner parties. Even though she and her brother were biological siblings, she claimed the title of the “real child” while expressing pity that her brother, Shawn, was lucky to be adopted by their parents. She was her mama’s best friend and much more than her husband’s better half. If there were an award for humility, Alanna would have received the “I’m Third” award; God first, others second, and I’m third. Alanna was the rain and those left behind are the parched ground longing for her drops. She will be missed in ways that no words can describe.
Alanna Rene Jankas, 39 years old, entered our world on February 26, 1982, in Oklahoma City to Rex and Barbara Holub. She was a 2000 graduate of Mustang High School and graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma in 2009. The stars aligned along with fate as Alanna and JP’s relationship began with a shot from cupid’s arrow.
Alanna Jankas is survived by her husband, JohnPhillip “JP”, children Lilian, Noah, and Vivian, her mother Barbara, brother Shawn, father Rex, two stepchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. She is preceded in death by her stepfather Jim.
