Alan Verl Hoskins

September 11, 1951 – December 8, 2020

“Thank you for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend”

Alan Verl Hoskins “Big Al”, age 69, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 surrounded by his children. He was born on September 11, 1951 in Ogden, Utah to Verl and Nedra Hoskins. He was raised in Ogden, Utah, attended Taylor Elementary, Central Junior High and Ogden High School, receiving his GED. He later graduated from the Weber Applied Technology College where he specialized in plumbing.  Alan was a man of many talents. In his early career, Alan worked for the family plumbing business, Hoskins Plumbing, where he learned the true meaning of hard work. He spent a majority of his career working for Redd Roofing as a well-respected foreman for over 17 years. His remaining work years were spent as a handyman for his family, friends, and the surrounding community. Alan took great pride in his career and excelled at being a skilled laborer. He was not just a hard worker; he was a man who could fix almost anything and enjoyed working on cars and doing side jobs. He instilled the meaning of hard work in his children as well as showing them how to live life to the fullest.

He married Kathy Martinez on October 31, 1983 in Ogden, Utah. They later divorced.

Alan’s true love and passion was fishing and camping with his family and friends. He loved the outdoors and spent much of his free time on the rivers and lakes catching the biggest and most fish! He also enjoyed traveling with his family, watching boxing (sometimes boxing himself), lifting weights, playing pool, listening to blues and rock ‘n’ roll, and cooking amazing meals for his family. He was known for his quick wit and truly enjoyed making people laugh. His big presence could light up a room with laughter from his well thought out, exaggerated stories and all of the silly faces he pulled. He was a great man and will be remembered for his integrity, wisdom, and strength.

Alan is survived by his children, Bryan (Cheri) Loftus, Brittney Hoskins, Alan (Ashley) Hoskins, Jessica (Jared) Watson; his brother Derek (Wendi) Hoskins; 10 grandchildren; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verl and Nedra Hoskins; sister, Deborah Tafoya; and son, Chad Andrews.

Our family will be forever grateful for his special friend, Diane. She was a blessing in our dad’s final days, providing him with love and light when we were unable to be with him.
