Al Friedman, age 73, died on Friday, September 16 after suffering a sudden stroke.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Casilda Pardo; son, Mario and his wife, Tara; son, Noah and daughter-in-law, Brianne; beloved grandchildren, Anya, Seth, and Lyra, all of Albuquerque; sister, Linda of New York City; sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and friends from around the country.

Al was born in New York City in 1943 to Anne and Jacob Friedman, he then moved to Albuquerque with his wife in 1973. He settled in the North Valley in 1977. Al worked in the developmental disability field for 28 years at Adelante Development Center where he touched many lives with his fierce advocacy for clients and their families. Such was his impact on people’s lives, that Adelante named a building after him in 2008. After retirement, Al continued to participate with Adelante’s Human Rights Committee, which he had formed years before to protect and foster the rights of clients. He also became a doting grandfather and farmer, he gave away more tomatoes than could be processed.
