A man planted by the rivers of water! Aimsley Vernald Barker-Blair was born on August 7, 1924. The second of 3 children to a godly couple, Charlie Barker- Dandy a lay preacher and the beautiful Jane Ann Blair- Fletcher an organist of the Waldeck Baptist Church in 28 Miles. Aimsley and his siblings lost both of their parents at a very early age. They soon had to assume the responsibility of taking care of the homestead, going to school and working the family farm. Such experiences helped him to develop a very strong character and personality. He learned early on how to manage his time between school and farming tasks. Which, would later prove to be beneficial when he had his own family. The teachings of his parents kept him, his brother Dudley and sister Eneith together in love. Living a life that was focused on the Lord and His promises. As a student under teacher Gibson in Cimmarones and later Vera Sutton in Waldeck, Aimsley, had a special aptitude for math. He was also an avid reader, which made him very knowledgeable in subjects such as grammar, geography, and history, and because of this he acquired and maintained an incomparable memory until death.
Aimsley was a dedicated and skillful farmer, a hard worker who worked from sunup to sundown. Aimsley and his brother’s farm flourished until, their farm suffered a major setback when the disease Manila came in and destroyed their entire cocoa plantations.
Following in his father’s footsteps he was baptized at the Waldeck Baptist Church and soon after served as a deacon. The words good and faithful servant was befitting of Aimsley because he loved and served his church tirelessly.
Aimsley, had a zest for life, he loved music and sports. He was very jolly person and a great conversationalist who could hold a good conversation on any topic. Aimsley met and fell in love with the woman of his dreams Daisy Neil- Foster who became his better half for 40 years. From that union God blessed the couple with 9 children and 3 adopted daughters. He also opened his heart and his home to Elena Lindo (Deceased), Ledonia (Deceased) and Evonie Anderson, Rolando Williamson (Deceased) and Alicia Thompson. Such kind acts of love earned him the honor of being called “Papa” by both family and friends alike. After his retirement from farming he devoted his time and love to the care of his grandchildren. After his daughter retired in 2002, he came to reside in Port Limon permanently. Where he began to attend the New Hope Baptist Church faithfully.
A devoted man of God, a man with God’s favor, a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
Aimsley leaves to mourn his children: Delroy, Delrita (Thomas-Deceased), Carlos, Irma, Rogelio, Ivoney, MIrtha, Cecilia, Berny, Ana, Marjorie (Deceased) and Sonia, 36 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
