Toppie Becker
September 9, 1923 to February 26, 2014
Toppie had a rich and wonderful 90 years of life. She has gone to be with her family members that have moved on before her – Fred, her mom and dad, her sister Delores, her brother George, Fred’s mom & dad, her sister-in-law’s Becky, Lois, and Jennie, and her-brother-in-law Kenny. She is also joining many of her close and dear friends.
Toppie lived in Indianapolis the majority of her life. She married a “Gardener” and enjoyed the German heritage of the gardeners on the south side. She was a loyal and dedicated member of Omega Phi Tau, a social sorority she was a member of for over 50 years. Toppie and Fred were also part of the Sahara Grotto – Greeters were what they were called. This organization brought them many friends and many wonderful activities. She was a bridge player, in her younger days she bowled every Monday night, and she worked many years for Farm Bureau Co-op. She had a very active and full life.
A main part of Toppie’s life, which most of you reading this know about, is the lake cottage on Lake Lemon. There Toppie & Fred hosted many a party.
Toppie had a strong, strong tie to family and she will be missed by her surviving brother-in-law, Bill (Adolph) Becker, his family Debbie and Randy Watson (and their children Nicole and Steffany) and Pam & Dick Brown. Her nieces and nephews, Ron & Judy Sheridan, Scott and Trish Sauer, Mark Sauer, Carolyn Herrington, Oscar & Don Kasper.
Most of all, her daughter Sally, who was part of her life, and now her death. The past 6 years being in Lexington with Sally was a very important piece of her final years.
As we say good-bye to Toppie, we take comfort in her words when she learned of her imminent passing:
“I have lived a long life and I’m happy – I have no regrets.”
Be happy Toppie and rest in peace, we will always love you.
