Agnes Mae (Pete) Hill Gibbens died June 24, 2011 at Autumn Wind Care Center in Caldwell, Idaho. She was born December 24, 1914 to Ormond Reginal Hill and Agnes Otilla Herdina Hill in Grano, North Dakota-the fifth of seven children. The four brothers and three sisters lived in many states to follow their father’s search for work. They lived in North Dakota, Minnesota, Wyoming, and Oregon. The family settled in Parma, Idaho where Agnes graduated from high school in 1933.  While in Parma, she worked in the farm fields and cleaned houses. Soon after high school, Agnes moved to Caldwell. Many of her favorite stories centered on Chessebourough’s Restaurant where she worked for several years. She said, “I’ve always worked”. Hard work and the pride in that work was the thing that defined her.

In October, 1937 Agnes Mae married Irwin H. (Pudge) Gibbens in Nampa, Idaho. They were fondly addressed as ‘Pete and Pudge’ throughout the rest of their lives. A daughter and three sons helped farm the Gibbens’ Homestead South of Caldwell in Lake Lowell Community. Agnes worked in her garden, raised chickens, and sold eggs. Many people in the community and family enjoyed the produce and raspberries from her gardens. The orchards were one of her favorite places. She loved the peaches. After her children were raised, she wrapped meat for many years at Johnston Brothers Meat Company.

Grandma enjoyed all crafts and she was accomplished in ceramics, needlepoint, embroidery, crochet, and knitting. Agnes was a member of the Lake Lowell Ladies Club, PTA and served on the school board of Lake Lowell School. She loved Bridge and taught her grandchildren to play many card games.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Irwin Gibbens, a daughter, Judy Gibbens, a son, Robert (Bob) Gibbens, a grandson, James Gibbens, her parents, and four brothers.

She is survived by two sons, Ronald of Salt Lake City, Utah, Gerald (Kandy) of Boise, daughter in law Sharon Gibbens of Meridian, and two sisters, Geraldine Fulwyler, American Falls, and Genne Beach, Olympia, Washington. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family thanks all of the staff and caring volunteers at Prestige Assisted Living at Autumn Wind in Caldwell. Your respect, love and care for her will always be appreciated.
