Agnes D. “Sunny” Meehan PetersonMarch 7, 1923 ~ December 11, 2010

Agnes Dorothy Jensen Meehan Peterson went to be with God on December 11, 2010. She was surrounded by her family at their home in Flagstaff, Arizona.

Born on the family farm in Fowler, Colorado on March 7, 1923 to parents Goodman Martin Jensen and Cecil Marie Christensen, Agnes was the youngest of 6 children. During the depression, following the death of her father, she and several of her sisters were placed in the Masonic Orphanage in Denver Colorado. As a teenager she moved to Minnesota to live with a distant uncle and aunt. She graduated from Montevideo High School and then worked in several clerical positions and eventually in the insurance division of the King Midas Flour Company. It was here that she met widower Joseph M. Meehan and his four young children, Margaret-Anne, Michael, Larry and Jim. In November of 1951 she married all of them and they gave her the nickname “Sunny” because she brought sunshine back into their lives. She was known by family and friends for the rest of her life as Sunny.

In 1952 the family moved to Tucson, Arizona for her health and there Joe Jr. was born and joined the gang. Sunny worked for the Tucson Unified School District #1 for approximately 40 years as a Registrar at Tucson High School and Cholla High School.

Following the death of Joe Sr. in 1983 she moved to Flagstaff to live with her son Joe Jr. and his family. In 1990 she married her high school sweetheart, Samuel N. Peterson and moved back to Bloomington, Minnesota where she lived until his death in 2004 at which time she returned to live with her Flagstaff family.

In her more active years, Sunny enjoyed knitting, sewing, arts and crafts, cooking, singing, golf, bowling, hummingbirds, penguins, frogs and holding the new-born lambs that her grandson would bring in from the barn on cold winter nights.

She was preceded in death by husbands Joseph Meehan Sr. and Samuel N. Peterson, all of her siblings, two grandchildren and one great grandchild. She is survived by her daughter Margaret-Anne Meehan of Bluefield, WV, Michael (Shelley) of Tucson, AZ, Larry (Kay) of Sequim, WA , Jim (Diane) of Redlands, CA, and Joe Jr. (Barbara) of Flagstaff, AZ, 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild, and numerous nephews and nieces all of whom will miss her very much.
